Amman: Vice President of Jordanian Businessmen Association (JBA), Muhammad Belbisi, stressed importance of developing Jordan’s potential to become the “best” tourist destination for travelers looking for world-class experiences, especially in light of regional developments.

During the first meeting of Tourism Sector Council, Belbisi stressed importance of reviving the sector, which is a “key” tool to stimulate Jordan’s growth, adding the industry has “remarkable and distinguished” potential to attract tourist attention.

According to a JBA statement Wednesday, he said this process requires further efforts to make additional achievements and maintain “record” growth witnessed by the Kingdom’s tourism sector last year, indicating that “we worked to optimally exploit potentials in the Jordanian tourist sector.”

For his part, JBA Treasurer, Michael Nazzal, noted Jordan’s tourism sector was affected by Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip, as the number of tourist groups coming to the Kingdom, especially Eu
ropean, dropped and guides and tourist transportation sector was damaged by about 70-80%.

Nazzal also noted tourist agencies were “greatly” affected, stressing that continuation of the aggression against Gaza will incur “heavy” losses on the sector exceeding the damage of Covid-19 crisis.

The JBA members and participants went over a set of recommendations to sustain Jordan’s tourism sector, primarily immediate measures to prepare infrastructure of tourist and archaeological sites, grant incentives in development estates to establish tourism projects, defer loans, lower interest, and intensify campaigns to promote the sector’s various investment opportunities and provide government subsidy, the statement said.

The statement noted recommendations also aim to provide facilitations for tourist visas to attract tourists to the Kingdom, sign more agreements to enter non-traditional markets, and set world-class standards and rules for Jordan’s tourism sector.

The JBA’s Tourism Sector Council announced its meetin
g will continue to discuss all tourism challenges and advance the sector’s growth.
