Amman: Jordan's export sector experienced a notable growth of 2.8% during the first eight months of 2024, as total exports reached JD6.228 billion, a rise from JD6.06 billion during the same period last year. This development contributed to a reduction in the trade deficit by 1%, marking a positive shift in the country's economic landscape. According to Jordan News Agency, national exports showed a slight increase of 0.4%, recording JD5.644 billion compared to JD5.620 billion in 2023. The value of re-exports witnessed a significant jump of 32.7%, amounting to JD584 million, up from JD440 million the previous year. Imports into the Kingdom also saw a marginal rise of 0.8%, reaching JD12.457 billion, compared to JD12.353 billion last year. The trade balance deficit, which reflects the difference between imports and total exports, improved, shrinking to JD6.229 billion from JD6.293 billion in the prior year. The coverage rate of total exports to imports also showed enhancement, increasing to 50% from 49% in th e same timeframe of 2023. In the month of August alone, total exports amounted to JD862 million, with national exports making up JD787 million, and re-exports contributing JD75 million. Imports during this period totaled JD1.715 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of JD853 million. Compared to August 2023, total exports rose by 8.8%, national exports by 7.8%, re-exports by 21%, and imports by 1.3%. The trade deficit for the month declined by 5.3%. The report emphasized the improvement in the coverage rate of exports to imports for August, which increased to 50%, compared to 47% during the same month in 2023.
