Amman: Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Monem Odat emphasized Jordan's resolute stance in facing regional challenges during a key meeting with political leaders on Monday. Odat highlighted the importance of national unity and solidarity to maintain Jordan as a stronghold in light of the current historic juncture. According to Jordan News Agency, Odat's comments came during his discussions with Rula Al-Hroub, Secretary-General of the Labor Party, and other prominent party leaders and representatives from the Lower House. The meeting focused on prioritizing political and party work amidst ongoing regional developments. Odat reiterated Jordan's unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the right to self-determination, stating that these positions align with the national consensus under King Abdullah's leadership. He stressed the unity of Jordan in backing the Palestinian people and enhancing the kingdom's capacity to tackle potential regional fallouts. 'Our political, economic, and administrative processes are interconnected, and we are committed to advancing them irrespective of the challenges at hand,' Odat explained. He underscored the capability of political parties and forces to manage the responsibilities of this critical phase, backed by the consensus around Jordan's Hashemite leadership. In her statement, Al-Hroub aligned the Labor Party with Jordan's esteemed positions on the Palestinian issue and against aggression towards Palestinians and Lebanon. She affirmed the party's support for King Abdullah's international advocacy and his vision for political modernization within Jordan. She also advocated for ongoing dialogue about the modernization process, revisiting the financial support system for parties, promoting party mergers, and coalition-building. Additional suggestions from Al-Hroub included raising the minimum wage, increasing funding for university students, and implementing comprehensive health insurance for all Jordanians. MP Mohammed al-Jarrah emphasized the need for greater inclusion of youth and women in political and party activities, calling for a stronger sense of national belonging across parties. Meanwhile, MP Qasim al-Beqaei highlighted the opportunities presented by the electoral law for party representation in parliament and stressed the importance of restoring public trust in Jordanian institutions.
