AMMAN – In a critical meeting on Sunday, His Majesty King Abdullah of Jordan welcomed Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, to discuss the escalating situation in Gaza and the urgent need for a ceasefire.

According to Jordan News Agency, King Abdullah emphasized the immediate necessity of a ceasefire in Gaza, highlighting the need to protect civilians and ensure the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid. His Majesty voiced concerns over the worsening humanitarian situation in the region and urged the international community to act in accordance with international law and the UN Charter to address this crisis. He cautioned that the ongoing conflict in Gaza, along with the illegal activities in the West Bank and Jerusalem, could lead to a regional escalation. King Abdullah stressed the importance of working towards a political resolution for the Palestinian issue, based on the two-state solution, and acknowledged the European Union’s significant role in this context.
