Brussels – During his visit to Brussels, His Majesty King Abdullah of Jordan met with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo to discuss the escalating situation in Gaza. The meeting highlighted the urgency of preventing the conflict from reaching a point of no return and potentially evolving into a regional war.
According to Jordan News Agency, King Abdullah emphasized the critical need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the protection of civilians. He expressed concern about the potential expansion of the conflict to the West Bank and escalating tensions in Jerusalem. The Jordanian monarch underscored the importance of ensuring continuous delivery of essential supplies like food, medicine, water, and fuel to Gaza, while supporting international organizations working in the region.
The King also stressed that a military or security approach will not resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, advocating for a political solution that ensures just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.
For his part, Prime Minister De Croo reiterated Belgium’s support for a ceasefire and the facilitation of aid delivery to Gaza, highlighting the need to adhere to international law and protect civilians. The meeting also covered ways to enhance cooperation between Jordan and Belgium across various sectors, with both leaders expressing a keen interest in deepening bilateral relations.
The meeting was attended by key Jordanian officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and Jordan’s Ambassador in Belgium Saja Majali.
