DUBAI: Dr. Ntoi Rapapa, Minister of Education and Training in Lesotho, highlighted the importance of digital transformation in government development and skill building during the World Government Summit (WGS) in Dubai. He expressed his country’s aspirations to embrace digitalisation across various sectors, including education and training.

In statements to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) at WGS, Dr. Rapapa praised the summit as a leading platform for discussing governance, artificial intelligence, and digital education. He revealed that Lesotho has signed several agreements with the UAE in the field of digital education, focusing on artificial intelligence, data security, accessibility, monitoring, and security assurance.

Dr. Rapapa referred to the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the UAE to support digital education. This collaboration will involve establishing digital schools in Lesotho, reflecting the shared commitment of both nations to empower and equip communities for the digital a
ge.

The Minister acknowledged that Lesotho faces challenges in achieving its digital education goals. Currently, only 5% of the country’s 1,480 primary schools have access to digital education facilities. However, he expressed optimism, stating that Lesotho is determined to bridge this gap.

Dr. Rapapa also addressed the need for government modernisation. He noted that while only three of Lesotho’s 18 ministries currently utilise e-governance practices, the country aims to implement digital communication and online services across all ministries within the next 2 to 5 years.

The Minister concluded with confidence in Lesotho’s ability to drive significant progress through digital transformation, envisioning improved government efficiency and commercial transactions.
