International Cooperation Minister Rania El Mashat on Sunday discussed at a meeting with Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Nasser Kamel cooperation in financing green projects, especially as Egypt is set to host the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27), which is due to be held in Sharm El Sheikh city in November.
During the meeting, Mashat said the launch of a
“NWFE” program, which aims to fund projects in the sectors of water, food and energy, would contribute to implementing the 2050 National Strategy for Climate Change.
This initiative would also support the State’s vision to strengthen cooperation with development partners to advance the climate action agenda and enhance the private sector’s participation in achieving sustainable development, the minister added.
She noted the COP27 is of particular importance to African countries that seek to unify efforts and boost joint action to counter climate change, through establishing mitigation and adaptation projects.
The two sides probed opportunities for cooperation in blue economy and how to promote sustainable management of water resources, as well as achieving food self-sufficiency.
The pair tackled the possibility of cementing joint cooperation, where women empowerment is concerned, and supporting equal opportunities between genders.
On his part, Kamel said the UfM is keen on effectively participating in the climate summit in Sharm El Sheikh and on pushing forward regional efforts regarding climate action.
