Baghdad, The Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union welcomed Iraq’s hosting of the union’s meetings and its presidency of the current session, which officially launched today, Thursday, in the capital, Baghdad.
Member of the Executive Committee, Saeed Muhammad Mahmoud, said, in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA), that “Iraq’s hosting of the meetings of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union is a milestone in the Union’s agenda for the current session, which Iraq presided over after a long time.”
He added, “Thursday’s meetings were devoted exclusively to the executive committees, which discussed business, administrative, financial and legal aspects related to the work of the federation and its committees, the powers of the general secretary and the financial secretary, and coordination between the executive committee and the federation’s general secretariat.”
Mahmoud, a deputy and member of the Somali parliament, said that tomorrow, Friday, a new meeting of the executive committees will be held, while the political meetings in preparation for the summit of the heads of Arab parliaments will be held next Saturday in the government palace.
