At least four soldiers were killed in a “terrorist” attack in Pakistan’s southwestern Baluchistan province along the Pak-Iran border, said the military on Saturday.
According to a press release by Pakistan military’s media wing Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), “A group of terrorists operating from the Iranian side attacked a routine border patrol of Pakistani security forces operating along the Pakistan-Iran Border in Jalgai Sector, District Kech.” It confirmed that four soldiers were critically injured in the attack and later succumbed to their injuries. The military said that “necessary contact” with the Iranian side was being made for “effective action against terrorists” on their territory and to prevent such incidents in the future.
Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief over the incident and paid tribute to the martyrs. He said that eradication of terrorism is our national agenda and all efforts will be made to eliminate this menace.
He also extended his condolences to their families and offered prayers for them, adding, “The sons of the soil are laying down their lives for the defense and protection of the country.”
