Moldova on Wednesday decided to recall its representative in the executive body of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), according to media reports.? The Moldovan government adopted a resolution recalling Teodor Iovu, a decision which will enter into force on April 14, according to the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers, Interfax news agency reported. During a government meeting, Moldovan Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu said that the decision was made ‘on the basis of the provisions of the agreement on the allocation of quotas for the appointment and rotation of deputy chairmen of the CIS Executive Committee.”? Popescu said in an interview with local media on late Wednesday that the country will begin to withdraw from agreements with the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) due to Chisinau’s “goal of European integration.” Yovu was appointed deputy director of the CIS Executive Committee in December 2020. The CIS is a regional organization formed after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991 by its former members to encourage cooperation in economic, political, and security affairs.
