Molla announces operation of 2nd phase MIDOR expansion project

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek el Molla announced on Sunday the early pilot operation of the second phase of the expansion project of the Middle East Oil Refinery (MIDOR) as part of his ministry’s ambitious strategy to carry out national projects aiming at increasing local production and narrowing the gap between production and consumption.

These national projects include the Egyptian Refining Company in Mostorod and the complexes of high-octane gasoline in Alexandria and Assiut that have already been inaugurated by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, he said during an inspection tour of project sites across Alexandria governorate.

He added the MIDOR project, whose costs amount to 2.4 billion dollars, would help meet the needs of local markets as it is expected to increase the capacity of the refinery by 60 percent to reach 160,000 barrels a day.

Molla inspected the work progress in projects carried out by Enbi and Petrojet companies in cooperation with Technip.
