RAMALLAH: The head of UNRWA, Philippe Lazzarini, has said in a statement on Wednesday the ongoing Israeli aggression against Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip has deprived hundreds of thousands of students of getting education and attending schools.

Lazzarini said on X that ‘In northern Gaza, once vibrant schools now lie in ruins.’

“Heartbreaking images of UNRWA schools severely damaged or destroyed by this brutal war,” he added.

“More than 300,000 girls and boys who used to learn in UNRWA schools now grapple with the harrowing war. Their education abruptly stopped, their sense of safety shattered,” UNRWA’s head noted.

Lazzarini also slammed those calling to dismantle UNRWA, stressing that Palestinian children deserve support to rebuild their lives.

“Those who call for dismantling UNRWA are depriving deeply traumatized children of any hope for a better future. Children deserve better, they deserve the stability and support they so desperately need to rebuild their lives.”
