National Demining Committee, chaired by Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Fayssal Mikdad, held on Monday its first meeting to discuss the national efforts exerted by the Syrian government to rescue the souls of Syrians from the dangerous impacts of mines and explosive devices, left by armed terrorist groups in regions where they were poisoned during the years of crisis in Syria.

“Syria has exerted great efforts to demine those regions, thanks to the efforts of soldiers and officers of the Syrian army who sacrificed their souls to rescue the Syrians’ lives,” Mikdad said during the meeting.

He added the army demined more than 50 thousand explosive devices, 84 thousand unexploded shells, 45 thousand mines of different kinds and cleaned more than 55 thousand hectares of the Syrian lands off mines and munitions.

“The Syrian government is going ahead in examining and surveying areas spoiled with mines in order to let residents return to their houses and their normal daily works,” Mikdad added.
