National Smart Green Projects Initiative to empower private sector, youth, women: Planning ministry

General Coordinator of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development Hisham Badr reviewed on Tuesday 18/10/2022 ongoing arrangements for the global climate conference, COP27, set for November 7-18 in Sharm El Sheikh.

Addressing the 13th Africa Ministerial Cooperative Conference (AMCCO), hosted by Cairo on October 17-20, Badr said climate change is a top priority issue to Egypt, which is located at the heart of a region most affected by the adverse impacts of the global phenomenon.

He added that Egypt, taking pride in its leading role in the COP27, is going to speak for Africa and propose adequate solutions commensurate with the magnitude of the challenges facing the continent.

Speaking about the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, Badr said the initiative reflects the great deal of attention Egypt pays to climate change and its impacts on various sectors.

He noted that the nationwide first-of-its-kind initiative is part of the State’s policy to empower the private sector, young people, and women, as part of Egypt’s efforts to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs), embrace digital transformation, and implement the National Climate Change Strategy (NCCS) 2050.

It also aims to lay out a nationwide map for smart green projects, link it to relevant financing bodies, and lure more investments in this domain, Badr pointed out.

The AMCCO is held under the theme: “Growing Africa Together: The role of African Cooperatives in accelerating Sustainable Development Goals (2030) and the Africa We Want (Agenda 2063)”, in collaboration of the Egyptian Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities and the General Authority for Construction and Housing Cooperatives.
