NCHR Board Commends Diplomatic Efforts on Gaza Crisis

The Board of Trustees of the National Center for Human Rights (NCHR) lauded the diplomatic endeavors of Jordan, spearheaded by His Majesty King Abdullah II, focused on de-escalating the situation in Gaza and safeguarding civilians. The Board, in its statement, specifically appreciated the efforts by His Majesty in setting up humanitarian pathways for delivering medical and relief aid.The King’s diplomatic tours to several European capitals, aimed at gathering international support against the unfolding aggression in Gaza and its subsequent humanitarian fallout, were also acknowledged. In response to the recent disruptions in Palestine, particularly in the Gaza Strip due to Israeli actions, the Board unveiled the formation of an operations room. This setup is intended to diligently monitor the ongoing situation, complemented by a dedicated committee for consistent oversight.During an emergency session today, the Center underscored the need for regional and international collaboration to present a united stan
ce on human rights, given the continuous violations against the Palestinian populace.Such breaches not only jeopardize the broader goals of security, peace, and stability in the Middle East but also have global repercussions. In its commitment to human rights, the Center reaffirmed the inalienable right of Palestinians to self-determination, as inscribed in the United Nations Charter. They urged the international community to act decisively, invoking international norms that demand an immediate cessation to the grave onslaughts on Gaza, which they highlighted as infringements of international humanitarian and human rights laws. The Center further pressed the media and global influencers for an objective portrayal of the Gaza events, anchored in accuracy and legal context. It also commended specific nations that openly condemned the stringent blockade imposed by Israeli authorities on Gaza and the ensuing displacement actions.Drawing attention to potential long-term stratagems centered on the involuntary displacem
ent of Palestinians, the Center equated these to a systemic approach of ethnic cleansing. Such methodologies, they noted, resonate with the Jewish Nationality Law.In its concluding remarks, the Center’s appeal to the global consortium was unequivocal: to intervene without delay, cease the civilian-targeted hostilities in Gaza, facilitate unhindered humanitarian access, and staunchly adhere to international conventions, notably the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, which ensures the welfare of civilians in occupied territories.
