The new Turkish ambassador to Greece met the country’s foreign minister on Wednesday. Ambassador Cagatay Erciyes, designated as Ankara’s envoy to Athens on Feb. 1, paid a courtesy visit to Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, the Turkish Embassy in Athens said on Twitter. Bilateral relations were discussed during the meeting, it added. Dendias, in a separate tweet, said he congratulated Erciyes on his new posting and underlined Athens’ ‘will to maintain the positive climate in Greek-Turkish relations and further advance them with respect for international law.’ Before moving to Athens, Erciyes was the director general for Bilateral Political Affairs and Maritime, Aviation, and Border Affairs at the Turkish Foreign Ministry. He was also the first secretary of the Turkish Embassy in Athens between 2000 and 2002.
