The announcement by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to suspend all steps intended to weaken the judiciary following massive protests and strikes in Israel, as well as the confrontations between Palestinians on one hand and Israeli soldiers and settlers on the other were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today. The two dailies, al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Quds highlighted the decision by Netanyahu to suspend what the Israeli government referred to as reforms in the judicial system and said the public pressure has forced Netanyahu to take this step. The third daily, al-Ayyam, which also reported on the Netanyahu debacle, highlighted as its main front-page story the Israeli army raid on Aqbat Jabr refugee camp in Jericho, east of the West Bank, as well as settlers’ attacks in Hawara and Asira al-Qiblieh, in the Nablus district in the north of the West Bank. The three dailies published several stories related to the crisis in Israel and the decision to suspend the reforms. Al-Quds said people are holding a nightly vigil at Jibb al-Deeb (Challenge 5) school in Beit Tamar, east of the southern West Bank city of Bethlehem, to prevent Israel from demolishing it. Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Palestinian cabinet approved the e-commerce plan and discussed the situation with the teachers who are on strike, calling for the resumption of education in the schools. Al-Ayyam said Palestinian leaders in Israel have decided to hold the main annual Land Day rally on Thursday in the Arab town of Sakhnin in northern Israel. It also said Hamza Yousef is the first Muslim to compete for the post of the prime minister of Scotland. It said three children and three adults were killed in a shooting in a school in the United States.
