NHRI receives delegation from Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions


The National Human Rights Institution received a delegation from the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi, headed by Katharina Rose, Representative of the GANHRI Head Office, in Geneva, along with several representatives from national human rights institutions from different countries.

The meeting, attended by Maqsoud Kruse, Chairperson of the NHRI, and Dr. Saeed Al Ghfeli, NHRI Secretary-General, included discussions on human rights issues, avenues to enhance joint cooperation, and exchange expertise.

Maqsoud Kruse presented the recent developments in the NHRI’s organisational and legal structure since its inception in 2021, highlighting the active participation and contributions made by the NHRI at local and international levels. He also showcased the NHRI’s efforts to promote the protection of human rights through educational media content for the community.

Moreover, the delegation toured the institution’s various facilities, which contribute
to fostering an encouraging and innovative environment to promote human rights protection practices.

The visit follows the annual symposium organised by the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), and supported by the European Union, the United Nations Environment Programme, and the National Human Rights Institution (NHRI), under the theme “Climate Change and Human Rights: The Role of National Human Rights Institutions”, which was held at Expo City Dubai, on Tuesday, 5th December, 2023, in conjunction with the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28).
