Confrontations erupted today between Israeli occupation forces and Palestinian civilians in the town of Beit Ummar, south of the occupied West Bank, after the latter intercepted a woman’s funeral and blocked mourners from crossing the Israeli military checkpoint at the entrance to the town, according to local sources.

Mohammad Awad, a local Palestinian activist, told WAFA that Israeli occupation soldiers targeted the mourners with live shots, stun grenades and teargas canisters during the confrontations, injuring a Palestinian young man from shrapnel in his shot and causing many cases of suffocation from teargas inhalation.

The Israeli checkpoint at the entrance to the town is a frequent source of provocation for the town’s residents, and is a site of frequent confrontations.
