Damascus, SANA- Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Fayssal Mikdad received on Thursday the Deputy Regional Director for the Middle East at United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Tariq Talahme and the accompanying delegation.
Minister Mikdad asserted that the Syrian leadership mobilized all its capabilities from the very first moments of the catastrophe, and took all emergency measures, at the highest level, to identify the most affected areas, and secure the urgent medical and food needs for those affected, not to mention removing the rubble and recovering casualties.
Mikdad affirmed that Syria will offer all possible support and facilitations to deliver the aid to all Syrians across the country, calling on the UN organizations to exert more efforts to respond urgently to the needs of those affected.
“The Western politicization of the humanitarian assistance is unacceptable” Minister Mikdad went on to say, adding that the negative repercussions of the inhumane unilateral coercive sanctions make many countries reluctant to provide their assistance.
Talahme, for his part, voiced his sincere condolences over the quake victims and conveyed the deepest condolences of Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Martin Griffiths.
Deputy Regional Director Talahme thanked the Syrian government for all facilitations it offered to speed up the arrival of the aid and the relief teams to the affected areas.
He referred to the efforts made by the international side to mobilize funding and support with the aim of mitigating the negative impacts of this quake.
