The olive harvest in the governorate of Sousse has been up by 85%, with estimated production of some 37,000 tonnes of olives, equivalent to 7.4 tonnes of olive oil, head of the plant production department at the Regional Authority for Agricultural Development (CRDA) Jalel Mkada told TAP.

He affirmed that olive production in the current agricultural season has increased compared to the previous season (27,000 tonnes of olives for 5,400 tonnes of olive oil), pointing out that this development is largely due to irrigated perimeters.

The olive groves in the governorate of Sousse account for 4 million 282,340 trees, or 8% of the total surface area planted with olive trees at the natinal level, in a region where the olive-growing sector plays a major role in the socio-economic life.
