RAMALLAH: Palestinian detainees incarcerated in the Israeli prison of Etzion near the Hebron and Bethlehem governorates are facing harsh and inhumane imprisonment conditions, according to the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission.

The Commission, quoting its lawyer, Jacqueline Al-Farrajh says “the total number of detainees held in the Etzion Detention Center is 110”, and the situation is still bad, with significant overcrowding in the rooms, which prompted the detainees to take turns in sleeping due to the lack of beds and mattresses.

Al-Farrajh said that food is scarce and poor in quantity and quality, in addition to the deliberate medical neglect against prisoners and detainees.

It also affirmed that this coincides with strict security measures and continuous provocation and blackmail attempts by the soldiers while dealing with the detainees, who spend all their days inside the rooms closed to them, knowing that a number of them have been detained in this place for more than a month and a half.

The Commission said its lawyer was able to visit 33 detainees, the majority of whom were subjected to sever beatings, abuse, humiliation, and immoral and inhuman treatment upon their detention.

It held the International Committee of the Red Cross fully responsible for what the detainees are exposed to in the Etzion Detention Center, and that it does not take the initiative to visit them and learn about their conditions, and this confirms its renunciation of its professional and humanitarian duties towards them.
