The Third International Pharmacy Conference titled “Royal Visions for Achieving Drug Security” urged providing incentives and facilities to attract investment in the pharmaceutical industry. The gathering, which concluded recently, also called for encouraging pharmaceutical companies to research and develop biological medicines, medicines with added value and non-traditional pharmaceutical forms and provide facilities to speed up their registration, and to draw up policies to achieve price stability and the economic feasibility of manufactured drugs. Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) Director General Nizar Muhaidat said in a statement today that the Jordanian pharmaceutical industry is a strategic and promising sector that was included in the economic modernization vision upon a royal directive as a mainstay and engine of the national economy. He said that among the recommendations the conference came up with was a review of the requirements and criteria of registering similar biological products in line with international references, in a manner to guarantee their quality, safety, effectiveness and accessibility to global markets. The recommendations stressed the importance of unifying registration requirements among the regulatory bodies in the region to facilitate and accelerate the registration of medicines in the Arab countries, he added.
