Planning, communication ministers probe 2022/2023 ICT investment plan

Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El Saeed said that the national information and communication technology (ICT) sector grew by 16.5 per cent during the first half of the FY2021/2022.

Saeed made the remarks during a virtual meeting with Minister of Communication and Information Technology Amr Talaat on Saturday 26/02/2022 to discuss the 2022/2023 investment plan for the ICT sector, which plays a critical role in accelerating sustainable growth.

The government’s ICT strategy seeks to achieve the goals of Egypt Vision 2030 for building a “Digital Egypt,” by upgrading the country’s ICT infrastructure, enhancing digital and financial inclusion, providing support for capacity building, encouraging innovation, and ensuring information security, Saeed said.

She added that ICT investments would serve the goals of the structural reform program the government launched in April to maximize the value of real economy, highlighting the remarkable growth the sector had witnessed during the coronavirus crisis.

Meanwhile, Talaat said that the sector’s contribution to the GDP hit its all-time high during the first quarter of the FY2021/2022.
