Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Zeina Toukan, on Wednesday met with a delegation from the British House of Commons, chaired by the Foreign Affairs Committee, Alicia Kearns, who is currently visiting Jordan. Minister Toukan lauded the deep and strategic partnership with the United Kingdom, and its role in supporting development efforts and refugees. Toukan thanked the British government for maintaining support for Jordan’s efforts to implement economic reforms, supporting the education, social protection, and refugee sectors, in addition to supporting host communities. Toukan briefed the delegation on developments in work progress and cooperation priorities within the economic modernization vision and the public sector modernization roadmap, according to a ministry statement. She also highlighted key features of the current economic situation, future expectations, and main economic challenges, stressing the importance of maintaining international support for the Jordanian response plan to the Syrian crisis to enable it to continue providing basic services to refugees and host communities. For their part, the members of the delegation commended the strategic partnership between Jordan and Britain, underscoring the constant aspiration to enhance cooperation between the two sides. They also underlined Jordan’s vital and pivotal role in the region. They also lauded the various reform programs and plans, especially the public sector modernization, and achievements that have been made so far in digitizing a number of government services.
