The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development in cooperation with the UN Development Programe (UNDP) organized a workshop on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Costing as part of cooperation between the ministry and the UN Joint SDF Fund on financing the development projects in Egypt.

Thirteen national entities including the ministries of international cooperation, finance, social solidarity, environment, education, health, manpower, transport, local development, housing, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), the National Council for Women (NCW) and the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) attended the workshop.

Addressing the event, Head of the Planning Ministry’s Sustainable Development Unit Mona Essam said the main objective of such workshop is to create a platform for fruitful dialogue among the various relevant national entities to crystallize their visions on the adopted approaches and results of the SDG costing and finances.

She said the workshop is a first step towards coming up with technical opinions and recommendations to enable experts to assess and make accurate assessments of the current development plans in Egypt.

The UN’s costing offer for Egypt includes a mix of methodologies and options for costing. This is with a view to give the primary stakeholder- the Government of Egypt, a menu of costing options. At the same time, alternate costing approaches, when adopted on similar SDG targets, will also allow for comparison of results, she added.

Under the coordination of the UN Resident Coordinators Office (UNRCO) and UNDP in Egypt, with the collaboration of UNCTAD, UNWOMEN, UNICEF and ILO, and in partnership with the Egypt Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MPED), this project aims to help Egypt fulfil its National Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 with a realistic financing strategy.
