Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli reiterated the State’s interest in the Universal Health Insurance System (UHIS), considering it an essential pillar for improving the quality of health services provided to citizens.

He pointed out to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives in this regard for the continued follow-up of various procedures and steps related to the implementation and assessment of the UHIS.

Madbouli made the remarks during a meeting he chaired on Thursday 8/12/2022 to review the initial results and recommendations emanating from the assessment of the UHIS operations, which was prepared by the World Bank.

The meeting also touched on the results of an actuarial study on the UHIS financial and actuarial position compiled by a specialized international company; within the framework of efforts to follow up on the status of the project.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait, Deputy Minister of Finance for the Public Treasury Ihab Abu Eish, Chairman of the General Authority of Healthcare Ahmed el Sobky, Chairman of the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation (GAHAR) Ashraf Ismail, Assistant Minister of Finance Mai Farid, in addition to a number of officials from the World Bank and the international company.

The health minister talked about the efforts exerted to expand the implementation of the Universal Health Insurance System, highlighting President Sisi’s orders on equipping health institutions in the governorates targeted by the system with a view to ensuring that a greater number of citizens would have access to integrated health services.

Meanwhile, the World Bank officials reviewed the initial results and recommendations of the assessment of the UHIS operations, with a special focus on Port Said governorate.
