Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh today discussed strengthening bilateral relations with the United States and the importance of protecting the two-state solution with the US Republican Congressman and member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Richard McCormick.
During the meeting, which was held via video conference, Shtayyeh affirmed the importance of building bilateral relations between Palestine and the US, considering the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Palestinian National Authority as partners in peace with the United States, and emphasizing the need to protect the two-state solution.
The Prime Minister briefed McCormick on the dangerous developments and the complex conditions on the ground as a result of the Israeli measures, stating that: “The government in Israel is working to intensify the settlement program by seizing more lands to increase the number of settlers in the West Bank to one million, and there are several members of the government who are extremely extremist and call for burning Palestinian villages and towns, and there is also a change in the open-fire regulations to facilitate the killing of our people.”
Shtayyeh called for putting pressure on Israel to abide by the signed agreements, and to allow elections to be held in the Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem, as previously done.
He indicated that the two-state solution is fading away daily due to Israeli measures and attempts to Judaize all Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem, stressing the need for serious American intervention in the peace process to save the two-state solution and end the Israeli occupation.
