RAMALLAH: Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh stressed this evening that the international community must put words into action and stop the genocide and aggression carried out by the Israeli occupation against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem.

He called for imposing sanctions on settlements which are considered illegal under international law, urging sanctions to be imposed on Israel.

This came during a meeting with the Australian Foreign Minister, Penny Wong, at the premier’s office in Ramallah, in the presence of Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki and the Australian Representative to the Palestinian Authority, Edward Russell.

During the meeting, Shtayyeh stressed that the successive governments in Israel adopted a strategy of systematic destruction of the two-state solution and the undermining of any chances for the embodiment of the state of Palestine on the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital. ‘Netanyahu [Israel’s Prime Minster] will not allow any political path
to succeed.’

He stressed the need to not only rely on Egypt’s Rafah crossing as the only passage of aid delivery, and to reopen all crossings with the Strip to allow the delivery of relief and medical aid.

He further stressed the need for Israel to allow aid to travel from the West Bank into the Gaza Strip, renewing the call to restore electricity and water to the Strip.

The Prime Minister said that in addition to the aggression on Gaza, Israel is working on promoting colonial settlement expansion in the West Bank, its daily incursions of Palestinian territories, killings, detentions, and the destruction of infrastructure, in addition to the escalated colonists’ attacks carried out under army protection.

He praised Australia’s position in support of the two-state solution and its rejection of colonial activities, which he stressed, are illegal under international law.

He further commended the Australian people for their support of the Palestinian people.
