RAMALLAH: Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh called today for immediate measures and an international investigation into crimes committed against Palestinian children and women at the hands of the occupation army in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and in Israeli prisons.

The Prime Minister said the photographic evidence and women’s testimonies documented by Palestinian and international institutions indicate beyond doubt that many women were subjected to field executions, inhumane treatment and deprivation of health needs, food and water, in addition to being exposed to multiple forms of sexual assault.

The Prime Minister welcomed the statement of several independent international experts published by the United Nations yesterday, praising their courage and standing on the side of justice and truth despite the pressure exerted on international action by Israel.

The statement held Israel responsible for supporting the right to life, security, health and dignity for Palestinian women, and ensuring that no one is
subjected to violence, torture, ill-treatment or degrading treatment, including sexual violence.

The experts called for an independent, impartial, urgent, comprehensive and effective investigation into these allegations as well as for Israel’s cooperation with the investigations.

The statement said these alleged acts may represent serious violations of human rights law and international law, and may reach the level of serious crimes under international criminal law that can be prosecuted under the Rome Statute.
