Paris – His Royal Highness Prince Rashid bin El Hassan, representing His Majesty King Abdullah, participated in a humanitarian conference on Gaza in Paris on Thursday. The conference, initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron, focused on facilitating aid delivery to the embattled Gaza Strip.

According to Jordan News Agency, Prince Rashid, who is an adviser to the King and chairman of the board of trustees of the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO), addressed the critical situation in Gaza. He emphasized that over 1.5 million Gazans are currently displaced and in dire need of basic necessities such as shelter, food, water, and security.

Highlighting Jordan’s efforts under Royal directives, His Royal Highness detailed the challenges in delivering humanitarian and medical aid to Palestinians in Gaza. He mentioned a recent aid mission from Jordan to El Arish, carrying 45 tonnes of aid prepared by UNRWA in coordination with the JHCO.

Prince Rashid pointed out that the current aid, although significant, is insufficient, calling for an increase in aid deliveries to Gaza. He stressed the need for the international community’s role in ensuring continuous delivery of humanitarian aid, fuel, food, and medicines to Gaza and preventing further deterioration in the West Bank.

Urging international and humanitarian agencies to collaborate closely with UNRWA, Prince Rashid emphasized the necessity of meeting the on-the-ground needs in Gaza and coordinating assistance with the international community. He concluded by advocating for an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people and their right to a peaceful and dignified life, achievable through a just political process and a two-state solution.

President Macron, who inaugurated the conference, called on participating countries to enhance support for Palestinian civilians through UN agencies. He emphasized the need to protect civilians in Gaza and adhere to international law, advocating for no double standards in protecting lives.

UN agency representatives at the conference warned of the unfolding disaster in Gaza, stressing the importance of a ceasefire and adherence to the Geneva Accords and international humanitarian law. They highlighted the need for coordinated aid collection and dispatch to ensure effective transportation to the Gaza Strip.
