Qabbag: Ministry attaches great importance to elderly people

Social Solidarity Minister Nevin el Kabbag said on Saturday 22/10/2022 the ministry attaches great importance to elderly people and is keen on offering variable services and developing new initiatives to secure their needs.

 

She gave the remarks during a meeting with ESCWA Executive Secretary Rola Dashti and the official in charge of elderly people in the organization Sara Salem.

 

The meeting tackled the importance of providing utmost family and institutional care to elderly people as well as social protection and economic empowerment.

 

They also underlined the importance of engaging elderly people in the social and political life and securing safe and subsidized means of transportation to them.

 

Kabbag said more than 500,000 elderly people benefit from Karama program and that a number of programs were launched to take good care of them.

 

She added that a national strategy for elderly people was finalized and efforts are exerted to raise awareness of those offering services to elderly people.

 

The meeting also tackled the file of handicapped and social researches.
