VIENNA: Leonore Gewessler, Federal Minister for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology in Austria, has emphasised that the consensus reached through COP28 was a major step forward.

The Austrian Minister praised the deal presented by the COP28 Presidency to transition away from fossil fuels across energy systems in a fair, orderly and equitable manner, a first in COP history, stressing that it is a historic achievement.

She also said that the decision keeps the objectives of the Paris Agreement within reach to limit global warming to levels below 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2050.
