Royal Jordanian Expands Fleet with Four New Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners

Amman – Royal Jordanian (RJ) is set to enhance its aircraft fleet by purchasing four cutting-edge 787-9 Dreamliner planes from Boeing. This expansion was announced on Monday, marking a significant step in the airline’s fleet modernization strategy. The announcement came during the prestigious Dubai Airshow, underscoring the importance of this acquisition for the airline.

According to Jordan News Agency, this new order follows a previous purchase of two 787-9 aircraft, bringing the total number of this model in RJ’s fleet to six. The company highlighted that the addition of these aircraft, alongside their existing seven 787-8 planes, will significantly enhance their capacity for transporting more passengers and cargo over longer distances.

The 787-9 Dreamliner boasts the ability to carry up to 296 passengers for distances up to 14,010 kilometers. This increased range and capacity have already led to an expansion in the number of destinations serviced by RJ’s 787-8 aircraft.

Samer Majali, Vice Chairman and CEO of RJ, expressed that the decision to acquire additional 787-9 Dreamliners reflects the airline’s commitment to offering an unparalleled travel experience. He emphasized that this move aligns with RJ’s broader strategy focused on fleet modernization, fuel efficiency, sustainability, and passenger comfort.

Royal Jordanian has been a pioneer in the region for adopting new aviation technologies, being the first airline in the Middle East to order the 787 Dreamliner over 16 years ago. Majali highlighted that RJ continues to lead in adopting advancements in aviation with its current fleet of 787-8 Dreamliners, which have played a crucial role in connecting Amman to major global destinations.

Stan Deal, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, commented on the deal, noting that RJ’s order for additional 787 aircraft demonstrate the airline’s long-term commitment to enhancing its capabilities and market position with the Dreamliner.
