Russia announces first prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine

Moscow, Russia and Ukraine exchanged the first prisoners of war, nine Russian servicemen were released, Human Rights Commissioner in Russia Tatyana Moskalkova was cited by TASS News Agency as saying in an interview with RT.

“The first exchange happened. We returned nine of our servicemen,” she said, confirming that Russian servicemen were exchanged for the mayor of Melitopol, Ivan Fedorov who was held by Russian forces during the first exchange of prisoners between the two sides.”

Earlier, Moskalkova had affirmed her readiness to work on the exchange of prisoners with the Ukrainian side (within any format), and she addressed the International Committee of the Red Cross with a request to provide assistance for Russian prisoners held by Ukrainian forces.

Russia continues its special military operation in Ukraine which was launched on February 24th, with the aim of protecting Donbas residents.
