Sabbagh: Western countries’ insistence to hold UNSC sessions on chemical file in Syria unacceptable

New York, SANA-Syria’s permanent representative to the UN, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, said on Monday that the Western countries’’ baseless accusations against Syria on the chemical file are illegal, unprofessional and categorically rejected.

“Those accusations come in the framework of the western hostile campaigns against Syria that aim to impede Syria’s stability and security and destroy its capabilities,” Sabbagh said at UN Security Council session on the Chemical File in Syria.

He wondered why the UN Security council insists to hold sessions about “the chemical file” in Syria without convening any session to discuss the negative impacts of the western blockade imposed on the country.

“The feverish endeavors of western states to hold such debates and repeat the same accusations against Syria are unacceptable and don’t suit their duties according to the UN convention on keeping international peace and security.” Sabbagh added.

He stressed that Syria totally rejects recognition of the so-called the Investigation and Identification Team (IIT) and its incorrect and unprofessional work mechanism which lead to untrue conclusions.

Sabbagh said that Syria’s cooperation with the Technical Secretariat of The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons’ (OPCW) affirms its implementation to its commitments, adding “there is nothing to be hidden.”
