H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, has emphasised that working to address climate change in the world is an opportunity to achieve social and economic development in the UAE, and based on this well-established approach, Ras Al Khaimah attaches great importance to sustainability, and sets its practices in all its government initiatives.

Sheikh Saud made the remarks while opening the Global Citizen Forum in Ras Al Khaimah, which is being held in the emirate for the third year in a row, in the presence of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, and a number of officials and key figures, coinciding with the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) being hosted by the UAE in Expo City Dubai.

He said, ‘Ras Al Khaimah is committed to working towards the UAE’s goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050, and recognises the importance of empowering youth, enhancing their capabilities, and providing them with the necessary knowled
ge and skills that would help them adopt a sustainable approach in every activity or work they undertake for the sake of their countries and communities to support global efforts aimed at building a safer and more sustainable future.’

He added, ‘In Ras Al Khaimah, we believe that climate action constitutes an opportunity to achieve sustainable social and economic growth for all Emiratis, and in line with this, all our current and future plans and projects focus on sustainable development and preserving our natural resources.’

Sheikh Saud said, “We realise the importance of accelerating and unifying efforts and cooperating with various partners around the world to address the challenges of climate change. Believing in this, we are working to invest in our youth to become responsible citizens and leaders who protect our environment, our natural resources, and our national gains, by providing them with the best innovative educational curricula that focus on educating our children about the importance of the ma

This year, the Global Citizen Forum is being held over two days, at the InterContinental Ras Al Khaimah Mina Al Arab Resort and Spa, under the slogan ‘The Butterfly Effect: Earth Age,’ in partnership with the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA).
