Sharjah Ruler chairs 2nd Maritime Academy Board meeting

SHARJAH: H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sharjah Academy for Maritime Transport, chaired the second meeting of the Sharjah Maritime Academy’s Board of Trustees this morning in his office at the academy in Khorfakkan.

The Ruler of Sharjah extended a warm welcome to all those in attendance and commended their distinguished service to the enhancement of the educational system and teaching methods. He went on to say that it’s critical to provide students all the tools they need to complete their degrees.

He pointed out that the academic programmes taught at the Sharjah Academy for Maritime Transport meet all international requirements, preparing students to work seas. He praised the teaching staff for their efforts in enhancing students’ levels and academic requirements.

H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan reiterated the Board of Trustees’ commitment from the outset to ensure that the Sharjah Academy for Maritime Transp
ort ranks among the world’s leading maritime academic institutions. This is achieved through providing the latest devices, equipment, and academic programmes, addressing student needs, and adopting budgets, regulations, and other requirements that enhance the level of students enrolled in the academy.

The council discussed several agenda items and approved decisions aimed at achieving the academy’s aspirations and improving the educational level and student experience.

The council approved the proposed budget for the current year, the organisational structure, and the strategic plan for the next five years for the Sharjah Academy for Maritime Transport. Additionally, the council approved the graduation of the first batch of students, consisting of 16 students from the Bachelor of Maritime Transport and Bachelor of Marine Engineering programmes.”

The council also approved internal regulations governing all academic, administrative, and financial areas, including regulations for granting bachelor’s degrees,
regulations for academic faculty members, student behaviour regulations, human resources regulations, and others.

During the meeting, the Board of Trustees members expressed their appreciation and gratitude to His Highness, the President of the Sharjah Academy for Maritime Transport, for his keen interest, careful follow-up, and guidance, of which contribute to the academy’s success.

The meeting was attended by a number of officials including His Excellency Sheikh Khaled bin Abdullah bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Seaports and Customs, Chairman of the Hamriyah Free Zone and the Sharjah International Airport Free Zone; Engineer Ali Saeed Bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi , Chairman of the Department of Public Works (DPW); Dr Mansour Mohammed bin Nassar, Head of the Legal Department of the Government of Sharjah; Engineer Salah bin Butti Al Muhairi, Head of the Initiatives Implementation Authority (Mubadara); Dr Saif Khamis Ahmed Abdullah Al Naqbi, Commander of the Marine Sciences Wing at the Rashid Bin Sa
eed Al Maktoum Naval College; Abdullah Hamad bin Nasser Al Owais, Executive Vice President and Head of Bank Deposits at Sharjah Islamic Bank, along with Dr Gunes Oefa Schroeder Gish, Vice President of the World Maritime University in Sweden; Dr Siamantak Bhattacharya, Vice President of Solent University for Academic Affairs in the United Kingdom; and Aisha Mohammed Bokhater Al Shamsi, Director of Admissions at the University of Sharjah, Dr Hashim Abdullah bin Sharhan Al Zaabi. Member of the Board of Trustees and Chancellor of Sharjah Maritime Academy, and Prof. Dr Ahmed Al Shamma, Chanceller of the University of Khorfakkan (UoKh).
