Head of the Islamic Supreme Committee-Jerusalem, Sheikh Ekrima Sabri, stressed the importance of Jordan’s role in safeguarding, protecting and maintaining Al-Aqsa and the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, within the Hashemite custodianship of His Majesty King Abdullah. Sabri gave his remarks in a speech he delivered at the second season of the Jerusalem Festival, which was organized by the Jerusalem (Al-Quds) Committee at the University of Jordan, in cooperation with the Deanship of Student Affairs, and saw massive participation. Sabri added that defending Al-Aqsa is a legitimate doctrine linked to the miracle of Isra and Mi’raj, and miracles are part of the faith, keeping Al-Aqsa in the hearts of all Muslims in various parts of the earth. Sabri pointed out that Jordan’s position rejects all Israeli attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque, which constitute a push towards escalation and a violation of the sanctity of the holy sites. This position needs the support of its Arab brothers, to empower and support it. Khadija Khwais, a Jerusalemite and one of the Al Aqsa Mourabitat (defenders) said that Jordan paid a heavy price for adhering to its principles regarding the Palestinian cause and its justice, with the support of the Jordanian people who rally around their leadership, and do not compromise or retreat. She expressed appreciation for the tireless work of the Al-Quds Committee at the University of Jordan, noting that the amount of support provided by the committee within the “Let’s Light the Lanterns of Its Resilience” campaign amounted to about JD148,000 from the University of Jordan alone, bringing the total donations of the committee during the past ten years to nearly JD700,000. Concluding the festival, Sheikh Ekrima Sabri and members of the Al-Quds Committee were honored and received honorary shields in recognition of their efforts.
