Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and British Minister for South Asia, North Africa, the United Nations and the Commonwealth at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) Lord Tariq Ahmad stressed the importance of launching the first partnership council between Egypt and Britain in order to further enhance bilateral cooperation and increase British investments in Egypt.

Shoukry made the remarks on Monday, at the beginning of his visit to London to inaugurate the first partnership council between Egypt and the United Kingdom, said the Foreign Affairs Ministry in a statement.

Shoukry, meanwhile, welcomed the Egyptian-British cooperation in the various areas of mutual interest.

Shoukry and the British minister discussed the repercussions of the current economic crisis and ways to mitigate the impact of this crisis, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Hafez.

The British minister also pointed out to the anticipated international Ministerial Conference, which will be hosted by London on July 5, to promote freedom of religion or belief, added the spokesman.

Shoukry affirmed Egypt’s effective participation in the London-hosted conference, pointing out to Egypt’s efforts in entrenching the values of citizenship and emphasizing the principle of equality among all citizens in rights and duties without any discrimination based on race or gender, according to the spokesman.

The two ministers further exchanged viewpoints toward a host of human rights-related issues, added the spokesman.

The two sides also discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest, including the situation in Libya and the ongoing developments there, said the spokesman.
