Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed on Wednesday with UN Mideast peace envoy Tor Wennesland ways of providing an appropriate atmosphere for pushing forward peacemaking drive between the Palestinians and Israelis as soon as possible in accordance with the two-state principle and international legitimacy resolutions.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said the two sides exchanged viewpoints towards the developments of the Palestinian issue.
Shoukry underlined the importance of breaking the current stalemate in the Palestinian-Israeli peace process, engaging regional and international sides concerned in the peace process and exerting necessary effort to achieve hoped-for targets to cement pillars of security and stability in the region.
He also called for refraining from all measures that undermine chances for achieving desired peace, reiterating Egypt’s unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
The UN envoy posted Shoukry on the outcome of his contacts with all sides concerned over the past period, expressing appreciation for Egypt’s support for achieving truce, pushing forward Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations and securing development needs of the Palestinians.
