Moscow, SANA- Russia’s permanent representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Alexander Shulgin, affirmed that Syria fulfills its obligations according to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and its close cooperation with the organization.

“Damascus continues to fulfill its obligations, in a responsible way, according to the Chemical Weapons Convention and cooperate closely with the organization,” Shulgin said in an interview with Sputnik on Friday.

Shulgin added, “The last 97th session of the Executive Council was the first meeting of the governing bodies of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) since the adoption of the decision to suspend Syria’s rights and privileges under the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC),” pointing out that “the delegations still have to assess the scale and implications of this step and understand how to move forward with this regard.’

Shulgin stressed that “everyone is well aware that the conditions they offered to Syria are not achievable, and therefore no one has any doubts about a possible change in the situation for the better.’’
