The General Secretariat of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) organized a meeting with the participation of a group of judges, lawyers, and in-house counsels to discuss the important role of women in the legal sector including arbitration.

The discussion was moderated by the Advisor on Judicial Planning and Development, Dr. Aseel Zimmo, and Attorney Aisha Al-Mutaywea, an arbitrator of the Court of Arbitration for Sports.

The meeting focused on developing initiatives to promote diversity, inclusion within Bahrain developing international arbitration community.

It also addressed the challenges that prevent women from entering and remaining in the field as well as the importance of providing resources and support to help women in their career development in arbitration.

Some of the initiatives that were suggested are mentorship from leading women in the industry, access to networking events and training opportunities to help create more opportunities for women to succeed in arbitration.

The group discussed the contributions of women in resolving international commercial disputes as well as highlighting the positive impact that women can add by bringing a unique perspective and expertise. The group agreed to build on Bahrain’s legal community in commercial arbitration and develop experience and expertise.

This meeting is part of Bahrain’s vision to develop a thriving arbitration industry and an attractive seat of arbitration.
