Stampede kills 12 people in S. Pakistan

At least 12 people were killed in a stampede during distribution of Zakat in Pakistan’s southern Karachi city on Friday.

A senior police official, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Irfan Ali Baloch in a statement to media confirmed that at least 12 died in a stampede during distribution of Zakat among the families of employees working at a private company in Karachi’s Sindh Industrial and Trading Estate area.

The stampede left four others injured including women. The injured were shifted to the nearest medical facility while further investigation was underway.

Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed confirming the death toll said that three children were among the dead.

Police contingents rushed to the spot detailing some of the employees on charges of negligence and shifted the injured to different hospitals.

Provincial Chief Minister, Ali Shah took notice of the incident and sought a report from the authorities. He expressed grief over the lives lost in the incident.
