Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Fayssal Mikdad, described on Monday as “deep and friendly” the relations between Syria and Iran in the political, economic and environmental domains.

Mikdad, meeting Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran and head of the Iranian Environmental Protection Organization, Ali Salajka, underscored the importance of coordination and cooperation between the two countries to resolve problems related to environment and curb the negative impacts including the dust storms.

The Minister said that practices of the Turkish regime in the region cause grave environmental and economic damages in each of Syria, Iraq and Iran, adding that the Turkish regime’s attempts to establish the so-called “safe zone” in northern Syria will lead to dangerous demographic and environmental changes in countries of the region.

Mikdad condemned the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the US on each of Syria and Iran, describing the measures as immoral that represent the ugliest forms of terrorism.

Salajka, for his part, said that the environmental terrorism to which Syria and countries of the region are exposed had a big impact on increasing this phenomenon, pointing out to the importance of communication among Syrian and Iranian officials to address issues related to environment.
