Syria signs framework agreement to join the International Solar Alliance

Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Fayssal Mikdad signed on Tuesday the framework agreement to join the International Solar Alliance (ISA), in the presence of Indian Ambassador to Syria.

After the signing ceremony, Minister Mikdad talked about the great damage affected the electricity sector in Syria as a result of the terrorist attacks that targeted power plants and the infrastructure of the electrical network.

Mikdad pointed out the inhumane effects of the unilateral coercive measures on all aspects of daily life of the Syrian citizen, including the energy sector.

Minister Mikdad expressed the hope that Syria’s joining to the solar energy alliance would open the door to developing joint projects that would contribute to solving the problems of the electric power sector in it.

He hailed the standing cooperation between Syria and India, indicating that the two countries have great potentials that should be invested to serve the interests of the two friendly countries and peoples.

For his part, the Indian ambassador expressed his happiness at Syria’s joining the International Solar Energy Alliance, in which India plays a pioneer role, stressing that there are many advantages to joining the alliance, as Syria could benefit from them in supporting its electric power sector and supply it with new sustainable resources.

The ambassador stressed the importance of developing economic relations between Syria and India in all fields.
