Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian announced that the process of sending his country’s ambassador to Sweden has stopped for the time being, in wake of the Swedish government’s allowing the burning of a copy of the Qur’an on the first day of Eid al-Adha, according to “Russia Today”.

Abdollahian said in a tweet: “Yesterday we spoke in detail with my colleague, Mr. Hajjajullah Faghani, the new ambassador of our country to Sweden, and he also submitted a report on the latest developments in his mission…Despite the completion of the administrative procedures, the process of sending the ambassador to Sweden was halted because the government of this country allowed daring attacking of the Holy Qur’an.”

The Iranian Foreign Minister had expressed, in telephone conversations with the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, his deep regret for the recent abusive and provocative behavior in Sweden in insulting the Holy Quran, and he strongly condemned and denounced this behavior.

He also suggested holding an emergency meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers at the earliest opportunity, in conjunction with the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Non-Aligned Movement in Baku, to discuss this abusive behavior.
