The Minister of Planning Discusses with the Swiss Ambassador Cooperation in the Field of Eater, Energy and Climate Change

Baghdad, The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Planning, Muhammad Ali Tamim, discussed today, Monday, with the Swiss Ambassador residing in the Jordanian capital, Amman, Emilia Georgieva, cooperation in the field of water, energy and climate change.

The minister appreciated, according to a statement by the ministry, the positions of the Swiss government in support of Iraq in various fields, stressing the importance of expediting the reopening of its embassy in Baghdad, due to its importance in supporting and strengthening joint cooperation between the two countries.

Tamim reviewed the priorities and directions of the government program, which focuses on fighting corruption, developing the economy, supporting the private sector, investing in clean energy, confronting climate changes through the optimal use of water, as well as developing foreign relations in accordance with common interests with friendly countries.

For her part, the ambassador expressed her country’s readiness to provide all kinds of possible support to Iraq, especially with regard to economic development, noting the level of success achieved during the last period in implementing a number of projects funded by the Swiss government.

The meeting witnessed a discussion of a number of issues and files of common concern, including cooperation in the field of water resources management, facing climate change, and renewable energy, as well as the possibility of contracting with a number of Swiss companies to carry out the inspection process before supply in the country of origin.

The two parties agreed to prepare a joint memorandum of understanding, to determine the priorities of files and projects on which areas of cooperation can be developed in the future.
