BRUSSELS: Thousands demonstrated today in the Belgian capital, Brussels, to condemn the ongoing Israeli occupation’s aggression against the besieged Gaza Strip and demand an immediate ceasefire.

Protesters set off on foot from the Brussels-North railway station heading toward the Place Jean Rey, a square in the European Quarter of Brussels, while chanting slogans such as ‘Justice now for Palestinians” and carrying banners that read: ‘Save the children in Gaza’ and ‘Stop fire immediately.’

Protesters also carried the flag of South Africa, which has filed an unprecedented legal case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) as part of its efforts to prosecute Israel, the occupying power, for its atrocious and extensive violations of the Genocide Convention; an international treaty that criminalizes genocide and obligates state parties to pursue the enforcement of its prohibition.

The leader of Belgium’s Socialist Party, Paul Magnette, also took part in the demonstration.
