Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply said it continues to monitor local markets across the country and follow up on adherence to price ceilings set for selling poultry products. In a statement to “Petra” on Thursday, the ministry’s media advisor, Yanal Baramawy, said its teams monitor price caps in all supply chains, pointing out that 3 violations were issued to establishments that failed to comply with price ceilings, including a violation against a poultry-producing company. Baramawy pointed out that monitoring operations are documented in footage and videos by market observers, indicating that the ministry has not yet received any complaints due to non-compliance with price ceilings. On the other hand, Jordan National Society for Consumer Protection (NSCP) said it received citizens’ complaints about non-compliance of some owners of fresh poultry shops to report violations on price ceilings set by Ministry of Industry and Trade. NSCP head, Mohammad Obeidat, stressed the need to intensify monitoring and inspection on all the Kingdom’s markets and increase number of observers during Ramadan by launching cooperation and coordination with ministries and municipalities to limit irregularities, especially in rural areas, while taking stiff penalties for violators of the price caps. Monitoring process should focus that price ceiling to sell poultry at 145 piasters per kilogram at farms is implemented, he pointed out.
